At 9 o’clock a truck with sand, stones and tools should come to the kindergarten. He did not come. And we waited for the first time that day. Spoiler alarm, this was not the last time… 30min later and the truck is there. The one begins to dig. The others begin to carry 30 bags à approx. 25kg up into the kindergarten, because the truck cannot drive up completely. From 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. we dug. Yesterday we ordered wood. The problem is it does not come. That means from 11 o’clock to 12 o’clock forced coffee break. From 12 o’clock to 14 o’clock we dug again. Müri, Däni and Michi assemble the frame with the wood. They made seats on it and stretch a fleece into the frame so that the sand remains in the box. We lowered the sandpit into the hole and filled it with sand and outside with earth and chippings. At 18:30 the sandpit was finished and everyone went back to the accommodation exhausted. It was an exhausting and stressful day, but we are all glad that one sandbox was finished.

This morning Elena, Anastasia, Murielle and Däni passed by the Molos kindergarten. In their luggage they carried the collected toys from Switzerland. The entire kindergarten awaited them in anticipation at the main entrance. As they unpacked, the children’s eyes glowed! We hadn’t seen such joy and laughter for a long time. It proves how children can enjoy life even from small things. Playing together filled us with joie de vivre.
Today we also helped with the sandpit and let our work rest for a day. It’s nice to do something different and physical, because otherwise we spend most of our time in the office. For us it is not the first time to build on the island, because last year we renovated the house of an older man. One can say that we enjoyed it despite the relatively strenuous work and we know why we are doing it.
In the evening Nico went with Shannon, Anastasia and Andrea to visit the Taekwondo-Club of Skyros. We brought them a laptop last year and it was even used when we arrived. It’s a hearty reunion, because Nico knew everyone from last year and she knew him too. We talked a little bit how it goes and so on. Then it became exciting and touching at the same time… We were looking for big floor mats on which the club could train. But we didn’t find anything and in addition these mats are quite expensive. That’s why we thought we’d give the club a grant so that they could maybe buy the mats or do something else for the club. They are extremely happy and grateful what you really felt, an indescribably good feeling. They even gave us presents, a backpack of the club and a traditional handicraft of Skyros. We said goodbye afterwards and already agreed on next year.
