Day 7

Skyros 2019 · 12. Oktober 2019

5:00 a.m. on Skyros. Last products for the Christmas market split, say goodbye to Karin and on to the airport. Shortly before eight o’clock the propeller plane takes off and in the half hour to Athens we have a great view over the island world of the Aegean Sea. Having landed in Athens, we have to wait almost an hour for the shuttle bus to the hotel. Arriving at the hotel, we deposit our luggage and everyone sets off in groups for an individual tour of Athens. Lunch is enjoyed together in a tavern under a pergola. Some stroll comfortably through the streets of Athens city centre and then go back to the hotel to rest or to enjoy the view in the pool bar on the hotel roof and refresh themselves in the pool. The temperatures are summery. Elena, Melina, Nico and Simon drive through Athens with the famous Hopp-On & Hopp-Off busses and have the city explained to them. Another group, on the other hand, treats themselves to refreshing drinks in the Hard Rock Café Athens. Anastasia and Andrea take a joint tour to the sights around and in Athens: the first hotspot is the harbour world of Piraeus. Then we continue to Vouliagmeni Lake, natural thermal springs with a constant water temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. There is not enough time for a swim and the trip goes back to the centre of Athens to the Kallimarmaro Stadium, venue of the first Olympic Games of modern times and storage place of the Olympic fire. Further up on Lykavittos Hill, the view over the whole city of Athens sweeps 360 degrees. Before the changing of the guard in front of the Greek Parliament building takes place, it is enough for a short look at the Hadrian Gate and the Temple of Zeus. The changing of the guard is a real spectacle and a tourist magnet.
The final point of the tour is the Acropolis. The time is enough for an extensive visit of the whole complex from the Odeon of Herod to the Temple of Athena and Poseidon. The way back to the hotel leads through cozy alleys of the old town past the Roman Agora. The only point of criticism is the ghettoization before you reach the hotel. At 19:00 the whole Swiss for Greece team meets for the final discussion and evaluation of the project week. Afterwards the time has come for the final dinner in a cosy place and the fading away. A successful week with many impressions and enrichments. It was great!
