Day 3

Day 3

Skyros 2019 · 8. October 2019

Elena in the hospital

Today was a very exciting day for me. In the morning at 9 I made an appointment with Silvia to go to the hospital. Once there, there was administrative work for Silvia to do, where I could watch and ask questions. Today there were 2 female doctors in the hospital, so I was allowed to go with one of them for a while and receive the patients. There were very diverse situations. An old man with heart problems, a man with an open wound on his elbow, and a baby receiving vaccinations. After lunch we said goodbye and went back to the others. For me as a trained health professional it was very impressive to see all this and especially the difference to our medical care in Switzerland!

Handicraft group

In the morning, when we load the cabinet parts onto the truck, the weather is not on our side, but for us this is no reason to be less motivated. When we arrive at school, classes start for all the children, which makes it easier to unload the truck. Since the teachers’ room is very small, every corner is used for storage. First we have to take the old box apart. This one was very small and hardly gave room for all the school stuff. Quickly we started to build up the new cabinet. When the break began, a few curious eyes came to say a quick “hello”. Thanks to our strong boys, the upper part was also quickly and safely assembled.

Shannon with the kids from last year

Today we visited the three kids from last year again. We played soccer for 2 hours. Everyone was happy to see each other again. It was great to see how the kids have grown up. The grandmother of the children was also happy to see us again. We brought chocolate and sugus for her.

Shopping by Andrea

Karin started contacting local producers already in the morning to organize various products for the Christmas market. Since it was a rainy day, all of Skyros seemed to be closed. Finally she was able to reach the olive oil and honey producer. After lunch he came with 10 liters of olive oil and 10 kilos of honey, which were purchased by us. A spice dealer promised to stop by before dinner. Unfortunately, she did not show up. Thus, further shopping is postponed to the next days with hopefully better success.

Melina in the kindergarten

After we packed the toys for Natascha’s kindergarten that we had already chosen yesterday, we can load them into the pick-up truck this morning. At 12:00 o’clock we start and drive to the first kindergarten. When we arrive, we are greeted by the joyful and excited mood of the many children, who are already eyeing the large boxes with curiosity. Finally, the day begins and we are allowed to unpack the boxes and distribute the toys. The joy of the children is unbelievable and it is touching how much they are happy about the things. Of course, we also have time to try out the things with them and play together. Definitely an unforgettable experience for me.

PC Group

Today we prepared the rest of the laptops and PCs, i.e. installed new hard drives, upgraded memory, installed Windows and finally changed the language to Greek. Now all devices are ready for use and can be distributed. In the late afternoon a representative of the local football club came to us to discuss the requirements of the new websites. We are now to set up a website for the football club of Skyros and the theater so that they can generate content themselves later.
